Webometrics Ranking of World Universities: Central University of Punjab in top 10 %

Central University of Punjab made its place among top 10 % Higher Education Institutions across the world in ‘Webometrics Ranking of World Universities’

While fulfilling its aspirations to represent India in the list of top educational institutions on the international stage, the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) has achieved another milestone by making its mark among the top 10 % Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) worldwide in ‘Webometrics Ranking of World Universities’ (Ranking Web of Universities).

The fact is evident as the CUPB got a World Rank of ‘2983’ among the 31,000 plus Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) listed from more than 200 countries across the globe in the above rankings.

Ranking Web of Universities is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas), the largest public research body in Spain.

The Ranking Web or Webometrics is the largest academic ranking that evaluates educational institutions across the globe based on Presence, Visibility, Transparency, and Excellence. The objective of this Ranking is to promote Open Access to the knowledge generated by the University.

As per the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, CUPB got 135th Rank among 5281 HEIs in India, 182nd Rank among 5916 HEIs in South Asia, 548th Rank among 10319 HEIs of BRICS Countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).

On the continental stage, the university got 785th Rank among 14356 HEIs of Asia (Excluding Middle East), 1031st Rank among 15815 HEIs of Asia (Including Middle East) and 2053rd Rank among 21440 HEIs of Eurasia (Europe and Asia).

On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari congratulated the CUPB fraternity on this accomplishment.

He stated that the university is committed to create new knowledge through quality research, find innovative solutions to societal issues and provide ample learning opportunities to our students in a student-centric teaching-learning environment as envisioned in NEP-2020. He asserted that the results of this ranking motivated the whole CUPB family to work hard and pave the way towards excellence.

It is pertinent to mention that eleven other HEIs from Punjab and Chandigarh have got listed in the list top 200 HEIs of India in this ranking and their names are Thapar University (Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology), Patiala; Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh; Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar; Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh; Lovely Professional University (LPU), Phagwara; Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU), Jalandhar, PEC University of Technology (Punjab Engineering College), Chandigarh; Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Science University, Ludhiana; and Punjabi University, Patiala.
